How do Botox injections work?

Wrinkles such as worry lines, laugh lines, neck lines, crow’s feet and neck bands are caused by muscles under the skin contracting when we laugh, smile or express emotions facially. Botox is a neurotoxin that acts by blocking the neuromuscular junction and has an effect on the skin and muscles it is injected into. Botox is effective because it works on the root of the cause, the muscles. Botox temporarily weaken the skin’s muscles, reducing its ability to contract. What can you expect during treatment?

• During treatments, a series of small shots are injected into the targeted muscles. A precise amount of product is carefully placed into each site for maximum, lasting results. The entire procedure takes 10-15 minutes and you will be able to return to your normal activities immediately.

Your Botox treatment cost is hard to estimate until you attend your first consultation. The dosage and extent of treatment will vary from one individual to another.

Q. When will I see results?

You will begin to feel the effects 2-7 days after the treatment. The longevity of Botox depends on three main things: your metabolism, your muscle strength and how active those muscles are. Some people will metabolize the product very quickly and will therefore need injections more often. Similarly, the stronger your muscles are, the more product you will need. Muscles we use frequently, such as the ones around the mouth and eyes, are more active and will need to be injected more frequently. Typically, results last a few months. Because these neuromodulators are temporary, it is best to come in every 3-4 months to maintain optimal results. Do not wait until it completely wears off, since there is a synergistic effect.
